<p>I certainly agree that our system being in “normal condition” is widely different for each of us.   However, since we all take in food several times a day, it just makes sense that the resulting waste matter is flushed out of our system at least once a day.</p>
<p>Skipping a day is okay but going on for days without defecating is a different matter, specially if starts to become routine.  It is a good idea to get into a prevention program, particularly when you start feeling rather sick.</p>
<p>Your prevention program begins in the morning, after your body has just come out of a 7 – 8 hour fast while you were asleep.  If you do not have the habit of taking midnight snacks, your body will have gone without food for quite a bit of time.</p>
<p>Just as we rest and recharge for the next day during sleep, our digestive system does the same thing as well.  Digestion is a process that requires a lot of work.  We are all aware that eating a large meal before bedtime results in having a restless sleep.  Instead of resting, the digestive system is forced to work at digesting the food and because of this the body could not fully relax.</p>
<p>A good and healthful way to start the day is to drink 2 – 3 glasses of lukewarm tap water.  The temperature of the water makes a difference in that it does not slow down your body which is what cold water does.  If you absolutely cannot drink it this way, you can make the water taste better by adding a twist of lemon.   </p>
<p>You should be standing as you drink your water and also after it.  Find activities that you can squeeze in for the next 30 minutes that would not require you to sit down.  You can watch television, read the papers, prepare breakfast or whatever.  Most of us spend the rest of the day sitting down.  In this position the digestive organs gets scrunched together which is why it is important to give your body the chance to work while in a straight, upright position.  Chairs are a relatively new concept.  Until about a few hundred years ago, people did not have chairs.  They either stood or squatted as they went through the day.  It would not be such a bad idea if we modern folks do away with the chair for at least the first few minutes of the day.</p>

A cleanse which focuses on only one of the channels of elimination is akin to deciding that you are only going to clean the closets in your house.</p>

<p>A constipated colon is one in which the transit time of food is more than 24 hours. Transit time is the length of time it takes for food to enter the mouth and exit the rectum. <li>Many popular Antidepressants which contain  amitriptylene  and imipramine  are known to cause constipation.</li>
<li>Calcium channel blocking drugs such as Cardizem and  Procardia have also been linked to chronic constipation issues.</li>

<p>One suspected cause of severe constipation is the over-use of stimulant laxatives (e.g., senna, castor oil, and certain herbs). An association has been shown between the chronic use of stimulanat laxatives and damage to the nerves and muscles of the colon, and it is believed that the damage is responsible for the constipation.</p>

<p>I recognize that this question may seem peculiar, but it the most basic sign of good digestive health. Over 95% of health problems start in the digestive system and constipation is certainly a culprit in many of these maladies.</p>

If the food stays in your system for more than 18 hours it putrefies, accumulates toxins which get absorbed into the bloodstream and contributes to numerous other health concerns.</p>
<p>If you are constipated there are several things that you can do to bring your body back into balance.</p>
<ol>
<li>DRINK more water. Ideally you should drink one ounce of water for every pound of body weight each day. This will help rehydrate the digestive system.</li>
<li>Exercise Regularly. This will increase the blood flow which will assist with normal elimination.</li>
<li>Supplement with a good daily fiber product that consists of ground flax.</li>
